Comparing Seedance and Kling prices without fooling yourself

Updated 2026-10-02

"Seedance is cheaper than Kling" and its opposite are both easy to prove with a carefully chosen pair of numbers. This page is about picking the pair honestly. It does not claim either model produces better video; it only covers cost, and the comparison rules apply to any two models.

Rule 1: compare the same tier, not the same name

Both families are sold as ladders. Seedance has Full (2.5, 2.0), Fast, Mini and an older 1.5 Pro row. Kling has v2.6, v3, v3 Omni, v3 Turbo and a motion-control line, with std and pro variants on some hosts. Setting "Seedance 2.5" against "Kling v3" because both are the newest is a naming comparison, not a price one.

Pair rows by role instead:

Whether two rows are "equivalent" in output quality is your call from your own tests; the catalog does not assert it.

Rule 2: compare at the same resolution

Per-second prices depend on the resolution tier requested, and the tiers on offer differ per model and per host. A table that lists the cheapest tier for one model and the top tier for another is not comparing like with like. In the live table below, each row states which tier it reports; match them before drawing a conclusion, and re-read rows on the model page if the tiers differ.

Per second, before VideoRouter's 2% platform fee. For tiered models each row compares the resolution tier with the widest host-to-host gap. Built 2026-10-02 from the live catalog.

Rule 3: price the spread, not a point

Both families have several hosts, and the same model can cost several times more on one host than another. A single "Seedance price" is therefore a range. Comparing Seedance's cheapest host to Kling's priciest host (or the reverse) is the most common way these comparisons go wrong. Do three comparisons instead:

  1. Cheapest vs cheapest (what a cost-optimising router will typically realise).
  2. Priciest vs priciest (a conservative ceiling if you pin).
  3. The specific host you would actually use, if you must pin one.

If the ordering flips between those three, then "which is cheaper" depends on host choice, and you should say so rather than pick one.

Rule 4: include fees and billing mechanics

Rule 5: multiply by your own keep rate

The comparison that matters is cost per usable second: rate x seconds / keep_rate. If one model needs more tries for your style of prompt, its effective rate rises. That measurement is yours to make; do not import someone else's. A simple protocol: run the same 20 prompts on both, mark each output keep or discard with a written criterion, then compute cost per kept second for each. The per-minute budgeting guide has the formula.

Reproducing the comparison in code

Because both are behind one endpoint, the harness is short. Only the model string changes:

for model in ["bytedance/seedance-2.0-fast", "kling-v3.0-std"]:
    r = requests.post("https://videorouter.sh/api/v1/videos", headers=H, json={
        "model": model, "prompt": PROMPT,
        "duration_secs": 5, "resolution": "720p",
    })
    print(model, r.status_code, r.json().get("id"))

Use a resolution both models list on their pages; an unsupported tier is ignored rather than rejected, which can silently put one model at a different tier from the other. Kling 4.0 was announced on 2026-09-28 but is not offered on any catalog host yet, so it cannot be part of a comparison today.

Worked example of the method, without numbers

Suppose you want to know whether a lighter Seedance row or a lighter Kling row is the better draft tier. Pull both rows from the table at the same resolution. Compute cheapest-to-cheapest and priciest-to-priciest ratios. If the first ratio says Seedance is lower and the second says Kling is lower, report that the answer depends on host choice. Then run your 20 prompts on both, count the clips you would keep, and divide each cost by its kept seconds. Only after that step do you have a cost per usable second, and that is the figure worth putting in a decision document. Re-run the exercise after any model update, since both families revise their lines and hosts reprice.

A checklist before you publish the comparison

  1. Rows paired by role, not by name.
  2. Same resolution tier on both sides.
  3. Cheapest-vs-cheapest and priciest-vs-priciest both shown.
  4. Same fee treatment and same billed duration.
  5. Cost per kept second, from your own prompts.

The full list of Seedance rows is on the pricing page, with a 5s/10s/60s view on the cost page. To test both on your prompts, create an API key.

Frequently asked questions

Is Seedance cheaper than Kling?

It depends on which rows, which resolution tier and which hosts you compare. Pair models by role, match tiers, and compare cheapest-to-cheapest and priciest-to-priciest; the live price table shows both ends.

Why do the same models have different prices?

Each host that resells a model sets its own price. The gap between the cheapest and priciest host can be large for both families.

Does the platform fee change which is cheaper?

No. The 2% fee on image and video applies equally, so it shifts both numbers but not their order.

Can I include Kling 4.0 in the comparison?

Not yet. It was announced on 2026-09-28 but is not available on any host in the catalog.
